Why I chose this profession:I first got the "bug" at UHS, where I was taught by Lorna Strand. Now, I work as a writer as well as a performer. My one bit of advice for students interested in the arts is to get a full liberal arts education. As a wise person once told me, "You can study acting whenever, but you can only go to college once."
After graduating from Kenyon College I went to Second City in Chicago and trained there as well as Improv Olympic. I then was accepted and trained at the School at Steppenwolf and founded a theatre called Pine Box Theatre in Chicago. I was also asked to join Collaboration Theatre in Chicago. When I moved home to SF I co-founded Tides Theatre in downtown Union Square. I was the Associate Artistic Director there and just resigned in Jan. 2014 to spend more time with my family and focus on acting. Navigating my path has never been a clear cut road, UHS taught me to follow my passion and gave me the necessary skills to make it work.
Why she chose this profession: I love performing live theatre. Powerful, evocative, story-telling can be a visceral tool to help us connect and empathize with our community at large. Website.
