Board of Trustees
The San Francisco University High School Board of Trustees is a volunteer board composed of UHS parents/guardians (past and present), alumni, and community members. The board reflects the school's diverse community and draws its expertise from many areas, including education, law, medicine, finance, community development, and nonprofit leadership. Trustees serve in a governance role and work on various committees that support our strategic design for the school's long-term health, including finance, community, and equity, investment, buildings and grounds, risk, campaign, and governance.
Meet the 2024-2025 Trustees
Will Bartlett ’93 P ‘24
Will Bartlett is the CEO of Parallax Volatility Advisers, an investment adviser that manages relative-value volatility trading strategies. Will began his career at Parallax in 1996 and has played an active role in transforming the firm from a small, floor-based equity options trading operation into a large participant in the global volatility market. He proudly serves on the Board of Governors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco and the Board of Trustees of the Hamlin School. He is a past director and senior member of the Guardsmen and served for nine years on the board of Town School for Boys. In addition to UHS, Will attended Town and UC Berkeley. He and his wife, Jamie, have two daughters at UHS and a son at Town. The Bartlett family enjoys travel, skiing, golf, and cheering on the Cal Bears.
Lily Beischer P ’21, '26
Lily Beischer has served as a trustee of UHS since 2018 and is currently chair of the Audit Committee. Lily is a portfolio manager, shareholder, analyst, and vice president at the investment firm Dodge & Cox, which she first joined in 1998. She received her B.A. (cum laude) from Yale University in 1992 and her MBA and JD (cum laude) degrees from Harvard in 1998. She is a member of the American Bar Association and California Bar Association (inactive) and holds the CFA® designation. Lily is a former trustee of the Bay Area Discovery Museum. She served on the nominating, marketing, and audit committees and co-chaired the annual Discovery Museum Forum event for several years. She is also a former board member of an organization at Yale and has volunteered with Yale reunion fundraising. Lily is married to Tom Beischer, and they have two children: Zach and Anna.
Mallar Bhattacharya P ’24
Mallar Bhattacharya, M.D. is a faculty member in the Department of Medicine at UCSF, where he divides his time among intensive care medicine, directing his research laboratory, and supporting medical student research programs. He also performs and teaches the music of the sarod, an instrument of the Indian classical tradition, and serves on the board of the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael. Mallar was born in Oxford, England, and, after a few early years in San Francisco, grew up mostly in New York City, where he attended Collegiate School. After undergraduate and master’s degrees in neuroscience at Harvard and Oxford, he completed his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He then returned to San Francisco for specialization in pulmonary and critical-care medicine and postdoctoral research training related to lung injury and fibrosis at UCSF. Mallar lives in San Francisco with his wife and two children, Ishaan (UHS ’24) and Rishab (a rising 6th grader at A. P. Giannini Middle School).
H. Kendal Black P’23
Henry Kendal Black is currently the Asst. VP of Content Strategy for consumer banking and deposit products at U.S. Bank. Kendal has more than 20 years of experience in retail editorial and content strategy. His previous work spans the gamut from retail digital marketing to design and tech journalism, including significant stints with Walmart and with Condé Nast magazines (Wired, Bon Appétit, GQ, and Teen Vogue). With a laser focus on engagement, he always seeks to create experiences that keep content fresh and conversations open. Listening before responding, discussing before deciding, and ensuring that everyone has a voice is his recipe for success. Kendal received his BA in English and American literature from Harvard University. He lives in El Sobrante, just north of Berkeley, with his wife Salee, daughter Phia (UHS ’23), son Jet (UHS ‘28), mother-in-law Thanya, dog Nori, and cat Dream.

Craig Brumfield
Craigile Brumfield was raised in New Orleans, LA. He attended St. Augustine, USMA, Howard
University, and The University of Chicago. He is currently a Portfolio Manager in equity market neutral investing with Sennosen and a co-founder of c+o holdings, a systems optimization
company. Craig’s domestic and international work experience has focused on Financial Services
and Technology including stints with AXA Group, Citigroup, and BoozAllen & Hamilton. Craig
serves on the Board of Directors of St. Augustine. Previously, he served on the Board of Trustees of San Francisco Day School, the Advisory Board of Breakthrough San Francisco at SF Day School, and the Visiting Committee for The University of Chicago.
Steve Cheung ‘88
Steve Cheung '88 is an investor with over 30 years of investing, capital markets and strategic advisory experience. He co-founded Palladia Capital Management, a long / short valueoriented investment fund, and continues to invest and allocate capital through its successor entities in a family office structure. Previously, he was an investment banker at Banc of America Securities in the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Group, where he advised corporate clients on capital raising and strategic alternatives. He started his career at Soros Real Estate Advisors / Quantum Realty Fund (a real estate private equity fund sponsored by George Soros and the Reichmann Family based in New York), where he was responsible for asset management, financing, and dispositions. Steve holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. Steve grew up in San Francisco and attended UHS (’88) and Stuart Hall for Boys and serves as a board member of Villa Taverna. He and his wife, Angela, live in San Francisco with their two children - James (Stuart Hall) and Caroline (Convent).
Leonard Chung ’98
Leonard Chung is a technology industry veteran, successfully developing and delivering products and ideas from zero to one. After graduating from UHS, Leonard received B.A. in computer science and cognitive science from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the cofounder of String.ai and was the founder and CEO of Syncplicity, acquired by EMC Corporation in 2012. Leonard has been working in the areas of collaboration, data management, and internet-scale applications for more than eighteen years and is an inventor who holds seven patents. His past products include Windows PowerShell, SETI@home, and the internet storage company Scale Eight. His notable past collaborators include RISC and RAID pioneer David Patterson and Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Turing Award winner Jim Gray. Leonard lives in San Francisco with his partner, Lily Han.
Lisa Congdon ‘93
Lisa Congdon was born and raised in San Francisco and attended Burkes, University High School and U.C. Berkeley (B.A. in Political Science and Masters in City Planning and Community Development). She has a 15-year-old son, Alex Bustos, a freshman at Bay High School and is very active with sports and friends. Lisa has worked in the real estate industry in a variety of capacities over the past twenty-five years. For the past fifteen years, she has been at the Prado Group, focusing on residential and mixed-use development along with historic renovation projects in the Bay Area. Before joining the Prado Group, Lisa was in the dispositions group at AMB Property Corporation (now Prologis) and the real estate acquisitions group at Lend Lease. She has held positions on the alumni board at Katherine Delmar Burkes School and junior board at the Holy Family Day Home and YMCA. Lisa currently serves as Treasurer on a family board in Yakima, Washington. She loved her experience at UHS, which provided her lifelong friends, a strong work ethic and self-reliance. Over the years, she has maintained her connection with the UHS community through her involvement with the Decorator Showcase and looks forward to getting further involved.
Ginny Conner P '24, '26
Ginny is currently the UHS Parent and Guardian Association president. A graduate of Duke University and Pacific Dental School, Ginny then trained at the University of Michigan as a Pediatric Dentist. She has worked both in private practice and as an Associate Clinical Instructor at Pacific Dental School. Ginny has previously served as Parent Association President and on the Board of Trustees at the San Francisco Day School, and she is currently on the board at the California Tennis Club. She and her husband, Ed (‘91), have two daughters, Alison (‘24) and Lauren (‘26). Together they enjoy travel, playing family tennis, and spoiling their dog, Poppy.
Paul Irwin Cooper P’19, ‘22
Paul Cooper is a licensed architect and principal at TEF Design, an award-winning design practice focused on local and regional development. His diverse portfolio of education, recreation, workplace, and infrastructure sectors reflects his passion for improving cities and communities. Paul began his professional career in Wisconsin at the offices of Eppstein Uhen and Engberg Anderson. He then returned to California, his home state, to work at NBBJ San Francisco. He provided leadership to significant projects at UCLA and the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation. He gained retail and community/recreational experience and deepened his higher-education sector experience at Field Paoli before joining TEF, where his projects have included the award-winning Net-Zero-Energy Larkin Street Substation Expansion for PG&E and Bayview Opera House Renovation, as well as the Bay Area Metro Center, Live Oak School, City College of San Francisco’s Diego Rivera Theater and San Francisco Airport Terminal 3 expansion. Paul served as president of the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2017, the AIA’s California Council Board of Directors, and is currently a member of the San Francisco Collaborative Partnering Steering Committee. He has also served on several local nonprofit boards. Paul grew up in Chico and earned a B.A. (Bachelor of Architecture) degree from the University of Oregon, with a minor in architectural history. Paul and his wife, Carla, are proud parents of two UHS graduates: Colin ‘19 and Erica ‘22.
Sheila Cuthbert P’19, ‘22, ‘24, ‘26
Sheila Cuthbert is a native of Illinois. She graduated magna cum laude, phi beta kappa from Wellesley College, where she received a BA degree in Political Science and Sociology with minors in French and Anthropology. Sheila received her Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and order of the Coif and was an editor of the Law Review. Sheila went on to clerk for the Honorable James F. Holderman in the Northern District of Illinois. Sheila worked in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago and was an attorney at Keker, Van Nest & Peters LLP in San Francisco. Sheila has volunteered continuously since having children. She co-chaired the school auction and chaired the admissions committee at the Little School for several years. She served on the Executive Committee of the Hamlin School Parents Association for eight years and four year as the Parents Guardian Association President at UHS. Sheila and her husband, Jeff, live in San Francisco with their four daughters, Nicole, Danielle, Juliette, and Caroline
Kimberly Fullerton ‘81 P’27
Kimberly Fullerton is a partner at Spencer Stuart, a global leadership advisory firm. She has served on and chaired the firm’s Board Nominating Committee, among other roles. Kimberly works with CEOs, human resources executives and boards of directors on critical leadership matters. While the majority of her work is in technology, she has placed C-Suite executives across a broad range of industries, from the largest companies in the world to early-stage growth businesses. Kimberly also recruits executives to public and pre-IPO companies’ boards of directors. She is deeply passionate about promoting diversity in leadership, particularly focusing on empowering women and people of color to reach the F500 C-Suite. Kimberly was formerly a managing partner and shareholder of the largest international legal search firm. She started her career as a corporate lawyer. Kimberly served on Burke’s Board of Trustees for eight years including serving as the Vice Chair, Governance Committee Chair and Strategic Planning Committee Co-chair. She was also a long-standing member of the Executive Committee and the Head Evaluation Committee and served on the Advancement Committee. Kimberly earned her J.D. from UC Law San Francisco and her B.A., English, from UCLA. A San Francisco native, she was in one of the first 9th and 10th grade classes at UHS after graduating from Burke’s. Kimberly is married to Stephen Johnson; their daughter, Violet Johnson, attends UHS (’27).
HOLLY HAGENS P ' 21, 24
Holly has been a member of the Board of Trustees at UHS since 2018. She has been a Vice Chair and on the Executive Committee. Other committees include Buildings and Grounds, Committee on Trustees, Fundraising and Transition. She was also a trustee for eight years at Marin Country Day School, where she co-chaired the Head of School Search Committee and served on the Executive Committee and Committee on Trustees. She also co-chaired the Development Planning Committee at MCDS. Holly also serves on the Brown University President's Leadership Council and the Brown University Athletics Council. Holly is also a past board member at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (2009-2018).
Holly Hagens has been a venture capitalist for the majority of her professional career, with a primary focus on early and growth-stage investments in life science companies. Most recently, she has been with Scout Venture Partners, providing consulting services to early-stage life science companies and venture capital firms. She previously served as an investment professional at AEA Investors and Apax Partners. She has worked at the Boston Consulting Group and started her career at Morgan Stanley.
Holly earned her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1999. She received her BA degree from Brown University in 1993, where she played varsity soccer (and earned three Ivy League soccer titles). She is married to Todd Sisitsky and has three children: Tyler (UHS' 21), Mia (UHS' 24), and Ethan (age 12). Together, they live with Carl the Dog in San Francisco.
Karen Hall P ’22, ’24
Karen Hall was named Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for The Permanente Medical Group and the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group in 2019. In this role, she oversees TPMG’s and MAPMG’s Office of the General Counsel and serves as a business and legal partner and trusted advisor to the Boards of Directors and executives. Hall establishes TPMG’s and MAPMG’s legal strategy in conjunction with the Boards of Directors and the executive leadership teams. Hall partners closely with and advises TPMG’s and MAPMG’s Government Affairs teams. Hall began her legal career practicing commercial litigation in the Attorney General’s office of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. She represented the U.S. government in commercial litigation, including bankruptcy matters, bank director and officer liability suits, and commercial contract disputes. She subsequently worked for Catholic Healthcare West and as an attorney at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, and Enersen. Karen is married to Steve Sherr, who owns a renewable energy company, Foundation Wind Power, and has two daughters, Caroline and Chloe. Their family has a six-month-old rescue puppy, Ruby, who has been a great joy during shelter in place.
Sean Hamer P ’23
Sean Hamer is the Head of School at Brightworks School for the 2024-25 school year. Brightworks, an experience-driven learning community founded in 2011, operates one K-12 micro-school in San Francisco. Students learn academic and practical skills through extensive project-based learning approaches. Brightworks students learn through the design and implementation of a strategy that encourages collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking in students. Dr. Hamer believes “education is a process that empowers individuals with the resources to experience a life of understanding, promise, and options.” Before his arrival on the west coast, Dr. Hamer served as Head of Middle School at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, PA, and Friends Academy in North Dartmouth, MA, and was a Trustee for Breakthrough SummerbridgePhiladelphia. His passion for the natural and physical sciences was rooted in his elementary experiences in Montessori school, sleep-away summer camps, computer programming experiences in middle school, and concurrent formative experiences at the three-summer (MS)2 program at Phillips Andover Academy and year-round school experiences at Brooklyn Technical Highschool. These experiences directed Dr. Hamer toward engineering; however, he discovered a passion for working with children during his college study as an engineering student, which led to a career shift to work in human and social services. This time included working with abused children, transitional living programs for teens, mentally challenged adults, parent counseling, and behavior management programs for school-aged children. After spending a decade counseling and administering child and adult residential treatment facilities and cultural exchange programs, he decided to return to the sciences and support children’s growth in formal school settings. Dr. Hamer enjoys time with his wife Terri, daughter Nala, and son Sekou, a Germantown Friends School alum and freshman theater major at Howard University and enjoys interests that extend to personal development, entrepreneurship, hot yoga, martial arts, film, cooking, and writing.
Scott Haskins
Scott Haskins is President of Sierra Maestra Properties, a real estate investment company that owns, operates, and develops properties in California. Prior to founding Sierra Maestra, Scott was vice president of acquisitions and development for The Hunter Group. Scott has led projects worth more than two billion dollars exceeding 4 million square feet and 750 residential units. San Francisco properties include a condo conversion with Ritz Carlton, a brick and timber warehouse converted to office, and a Hospital in the Presidio converted to apartments. Scott is a former board member of the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association, San Francisco Architectural Heritage, and recently served as trustee, and board chair of Marin Country Day School as well co-chair of the Building and Grounds Committee which oversaw a new building and significant improvements to the school. Scott earned a BS in Finance from San Diego State University and an MS in Real Estate Appraisal and Investment Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and daughter.

Tali Jang '04
Tali Jang is a San Francisco native. She attended Burkes, University High School, and UC Berkeley, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and received a B.A. in Communications. Tali is a Marketing and Communications veteran, having spent 14 years at Google leading global Consumer Marketing strategy and operations for flagship products including Search, Maps, Gmail, and Photos, owning internal and external VP- to C-level communications, and producing company-wide events and initiatives. More recently, Tali served on the UHS Mission Statement Task Force, which reignited her involvement with the school. She currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, AJ Asver. They share 5-year-old identical twins, Theo and Jasper, who attended The Little School, where Tali served as a Trustee on the Board, member of the Diversity Committee, and DJ at the annual fundraiser for discounted tuition.
Tomás A. Magaña ’82
Tomás A. Magaña, MD, MA, FAAP, is a physician, program director, educator, and advocate dedicated to improving care and health outcomes for the country’s most vulnerable children. Dr. Magaña is a board-certified pediatrician with expertise in the care of vulnerable children and adolescents, including those impacted by the juvenile justice and foster care systems, immigration, and community violence. He is a Lead Physician in the Department of School Based Health Centers at La Clínica de La Raza, Inc., where he serves the complex medical needs of diverse youth from Alameda County. He is also Assistant Professor/Medical Director in the Masters Physician Assistant Department at Samuel Merritt University and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. Previously, Dr. Magaña was a member of the Division of Adolescent Medicine at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. He served as Medical Director of Alameda County’s Juvenile Justice Center and attending physician at the hospital-based Teen Clinic and Youth Uprising School Based Health Center in East Oakland, CA. Dr. Magaña is a leading expert in designing and implementing health workforce pipeline programs for youth and young adults. As a Principal Investigator at the Public Health Institute in Oakland, CA, Dr. Magaña is Founding Director of the award-winning FACES for the Future Coalition, a collaborative of national programs designed to prepare disadvantaged youth for entry into college and careers in the health professions. Dr. Magaña is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Commissioner of First 5 Alameda County, and has served on several regional and national advisory boards focusing on pediatric health issues, healthcare workforce development, and medical education. He also has served on the Boards of several nonprofit organizations, including Safe Passages, MEDICC (Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba), Seva Foundation, Vesper Society, and Amigos de las Americas. Dr. Magaña is an alumnus of San Francisco University High School (Class of ’82). He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, his Masters degree from U.C. Berkeley, and his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Dr. Magaña is a first-generation college graduate and has dedicated much of his career to serving underserved communities. He has a passion for programs that foster youth leadership, wellness, and professional development. Dr. Magaña has been happily married to his loving partner, Leticia, for 30 years, and he is the proud father of two extraordinary sons, Joaquín and Elías.
Brenda Mira P '24
Brenda Mira is the owner and creative director of Fleurt, an upscale flower design studio located on Sacramento Street near Presidio Avenue. She is an active Sacramento Street Merchants Association member and participates in community events to engage neighbors and consumers to support Sacramento Street merchants. With over 15 years of floral design experience, Brenda started her career working with some of the city’s premier studios. Today, Brenda is a preferred vendor at De Young Museum, San Francisco City Hall, Sessions at the Presidio, and the Asian Art Museum. Her client list includes Fortune 500 companies designing flowers for product launches, galas, private events, and conferences as well being an in-house florist for Michelin restaurants all around San Francisco. Brenda grew up in Daly City and holds a B.S. in Political Science from UC Berkeley. She believes in giving back and has worked with several causes, such as Americorps mentoring foster youth, Project Shine as a translator helping with literacy at CCSF, SF Food Bank, City of Hope, and Children of Shelter. Brenda lives in Daly City with her husband, Durojaiye, and the youngest of four, Kuba Salaam (University Class 24’).
Elizabeth Mooney P’23, ‘25
Elizabeth Mooney is a partner with Capital Strategy Research of the Capital Group Companies where she has had global accounting research responsibilities for 19 years. Prior to joining Capital, she was a consumer industry analyst and a portfolio manager for private clients and institutional accounts with RCM (acquired by Allianz Global Investors) for ten years. Before that, she was an auditor at Deloitte LLP. Elizabeth has a master’s degree in accountancy from DePaul University graduating with honors and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan. She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. She is an audit committee member of The Episcopal Impact Fund in San Francisco and served as senior warden and finance committee chair of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Mill Valley. Elizabeth resides in Mill Valley with Mike and their sons Michael (’23) and Ian (’25).
Andy Nakahata P’23, P’25
Andy Nakahata is a Managing Director and public finance investment banker with UBS. Andy is the Regional Head of Public Finance, West Region, managing UBS’s west region public finance team. Andy has worked in the public finance industry for almost 30 years helping state and local government, higher education, public power, transportation and not-for-profit borrowers fund their capital needs. Prior to UBS, he worked at National Public Finance Guarantee, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs. Andy also served as on the Marin Country Day School board of trustees for 7 years, where he served as Chair of the Board for three years. During his tenure as Chair, Andy oversaw a successful Head of School search, Head of School transition, Mission Statement update, campus improvement and new building project, and capital campaign. Prior to becoming Chair, Andy served as Chair of the Finance Committee. Andy also served on an Indexed Tuition Task Force, Long Range Financial Planning Task Force, Faculty/Staff Salaries and Benefits Task Force, and Co-Chaired the Mindfulness Fund Campaign. Andy has also served on the boards of Kokoro Assisted Living, Enterprise for High School Students and the Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project. Andy has a B.A. in history from Wesleyan University and a Master’s Degree in Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management. Andy is married to Alison Fong, and has two sons: Dash (UHS ‘23) and Pax (UHS '25). Andy has spent the past four years as an avid supporter of the UHS cross-county and track teams.
Gabriela Franco Parcella P’23, ‘25
Gabriela Franco Parcella is Managing Partner of Merlone Geier Partners, a private equity real estate firm with $4.5 billion under management, and President of Merlone Geier Management, LLC. At Merlone Geier, Gabriela is a member of the Investment Committee and Executive Team. Before Merlone Geier, Gabriela was the Chairman, President, and CEO of Mellon Capital, serving in those roles for seven years of her 20-year tenure. At Mellon Capital, she oversaw the fully integrated $360 billion AUM company. She was previously an independent director of Terreno Realty Corporation (NYSE: TRNO), where she served as Chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Gabriela is also an Independent Trustee of the Dodge & Cox Funds, where she serves as Chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee. Additionally, Gabriela serves on the Stanford Law School Dean's Advisory Council, the Stanford Real Estate Council, and The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business Dean's Advisory Council. In 2019, she concluded her term as Chair of the Board of Schools of the Sacred Heart, San Francisco. Gabriela has a Masters in Professional Accounting and a B.A. in Business Administration, both with High Honors, from the University of Texas at Austin. She holds a J.D. with Distinction from Stanford Law School. She is admitted to the California State Bar, is fluent in Spanish, and lives in San Francisco with her husband and two sons.
Efrain Perez
Efrain Perez is a Sr. Director of Customer Success at Splunk, a technology company focusing on business analytics, compliance, and security data platforms. Efrain began his career in technology at Hitachi in 2000 where he spent 20 years playing an active role in expanding its global Internet of Things (IoT) business, more recently serving as the Vice President of Global Services. Efrain is an Oakland native and attended UC Berkeley. While there he was also driven by his passion for serving the community, focusing on incarcerated youth. He and his wife, Alejandra, have two daughters at UHS, Isabella (Class of 24), Ava (Class of 27) and an English Bulldog, Coda. The Perez family enjoys staying active while finding time for family and cheering on the Warriors….
Alec Perkins
Alec Perkins is CEO and portfolio manager at Hunter Capital Management, a value-oriented investment firm he co-founded in 2020. Prior to Hunter Capital, Alec worked for 20 years as portfolio manager and analyst at Janus Henderson where he was responsible for co-managing the Select Value, All Cap Value and Value Plus Income strategies. Alec has also been involved in a variety of non-profit activities including serving on the School Site Council at Thurgood Marshall high school, and as Vice-Chair and Investment Committee member at Town School, a member of the Full Circle Fund, and serving as Board Chair of Tipping Point Community. He received his BA degree from Middlebury College, an MA from Stanford University’s School of Education, and an MBA from the University of California, Haas School of Business. Alec is married with two children and lives in San Francisco.
Kimi Peters
Kimi Peters was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and holds a B.A. in Economics from Keio University. She served on the board of trustees at Alta Vista School and was the DEIB chair of the board. She worked for most of her career as a TV producer at NHK (Japanese Public Broadcaster) as well as producing independent films. Between 2000-2005, she worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan and for the United Nations, stationed in Bosnia and Herzegovina to take part in the post-war reconstruction effort. Her mission was to rebuild the national TV station and to create a public broadcasting system in Bosnia. Kimi has also been published extensively in books, magazines, and newspapers. Nowadays, she enjoys producing olive oil at the family farm along with her husband Greg and their two children, Taiki and Kiko.
René Picazo
René Picazo is an investor and the former President of Allspring Funds Distributor. In this capacity, René oversaw the $200bn wealth business and the distribution of investment products through national/regional broker dealers, insurance companies and registered investment advisors (RIAs).
Before joining Allspring, René served as managing director of the Global Institutional Client Group at Wells Fargo. Earlier René led strategic institutional relationships at UBS, focusing on the west coast. René brings deep international experience from his time at Merrill Lynch covering clients in Latin America and later in Italy, Spain & Portugal while based in London.
René earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He holds series 7, 63, 79 and 24 FINRA licenses. René is a proud member of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) and serves on the advisory board for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
Nehal Raj P’26
Nehal Raj is Co-Managing Partner at TPG, a global investment firm, where he co-leads the firm’s flagship private equity business (TPG Capital) and its technology-focused solutions capital business (TPG Tech Adjacencies). Prior to joining TPG in 2006, Nehal was an investor at Francisco Partners and M&A banker at Morgan Stanley. Nehal received an AB with Distinction in Economics and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. Nehal currently serves on the board of directors of a number of public and private software companies. In addition, Nehal serves on the Advisory Board of the non-profit Breakthrough San Francisco and previously served on the Board of Trustees of San Francisco Day School, where he was a member of the Executive Committee, Chair of the Buildings & Grounds Committee, and helped lead a significant facilities expansion at the school. Nehal also serves on Stanford University’s Undergraduate Cabinet and H&S Council, as well as the HBS Fund Council. Nehal and his wife Jenny live in San Francisco with their two children, Lila (UHS ’26) and Arjun (UHS ’27).
Nadya Ramsaroop
Nadya Ramsaroop is a licensed psychologist and her corporate
consulting practice focuses on leadership development. She holds a
Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas, a Doctorate from
the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center School of
Biomedical Sciences, and a Post-Doctoral fellowship from Stanford
University all in the specialty area of applied psychology. Nadya is a
Blue Ribbon committee member of Civic Influencers, a youth voter
engagement organization and has also served on the board of the
Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, an advocacy group for
immigration policy. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and
two dynamic daughters who add immeasurable meaning to her life
and push her to walk her talk on a daily basis. She loves to travel,
read, soak in the wonder of the ocean and the stars and chat with
anyone willing to engage.
Tanguy Serra P ‘23
Tanguy Serra is the President and Chief Investment Officer at Loanpal. He oversees Loanpal’s overall financial activities, including capital markets, financial planning, and strategic investor partnerships. Tanguy also leads technology and innovation, helping establish Loanpal as the leading point-of-sale platform for solar and other sustainable home solutions in the United States. In addition, Tanguy is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer at GoodFinch, an ESG investment management platform uniquely focused on home-efficiency fixed income securities that benefit the planet while delivering high-performing assets to investors. Tanguy has extensive experience across capital markets, clean energy, and financial technology. He previously worked in investment banking at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley in London. He served nearly a decade as Vice President of the private equity group at TPG Capital in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and San Francisco -- establishing a successful track record of delivering growth through market cycles and reviewing hundreds of global investments across all sectors. Tanguy is a relentless problem-solver, avid board game player, and enduring optimist about human innovation. Born and raised in Paris, France, he currently lives in San Francisco with his wife and three children. Tanguy is currently upgrading an 1894 Victorian home to be highly energy efficient.
Laura Spivy P'18, '20, '23, '25
Laura Spivy is currently the UHS Board Chair and a Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign. She has served as a Trustee of UHS since 2017. With a strong interest in education as an equalizer, Laura has spent over fifteen years working on public and private school boards focusing on non-profit leadership, finance, and development, mainly targeted toward increasing financial aid and teacher compensation. Laura is currently a trustee at Gateway Public Schools (a charter management organization in San Francisco), San Francisco University High School, and formerly a trustee for the Stanford Business School Fund and San Francisco Day School. She has significant board leadership experience, including eight years as chair and 12 years as treasurer. Laura received her MBA from Stanford University and holds a B.A. in Economics and East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University. Laura and her husband, Greg, live in San Francisco with their dog Picasso and various children depending on the time of year.
Clayton Timbrell ‘00
Clayton Timbrell is a General Contractor focusing on the renovation and construction of distinct single-family homes and condominiums. Many of Clayton’s projects are near University High School, and clients have included UHS parents and alumni. Clayton Timbrell & Co has supported the Decorator Showcase as an advertiser, builder, and Showcase sponsor dating back to 2007. Clayton’s educational background includes having attended Town School (’96), School Year Abroad, Spain (’99), and an honors degree in Spanish Language & Literature from UC Berkeley (’03). While at UC Berkeley, Clayton spent a semester at Casa de Las Americas in La Habana, Cuba, in 2002. Clayton’s involvement in the community has included the support mentioned above of the Decorator Showcase, sponsorship of the 7-Tepees Youth Program’s Annual Bowling event (2013 & 14), the LEAP Arts Sandcastle Contest (which in partnership with ButlerArmsden Architects was the highest fundraising team in 2014), and his company worked with Butler-Armsden in building two rooms for the Ronald McDonald House’s expansion at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University in 2015.
Julia Wong
Julia Wong is a pediatrician and a second generation native San Franciscan. She earned her B.A.
in Art History/Studio and English from Wellesley College, received her medical degree from the
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at Penn
State Children’s Hospital. Prior to becoming a physician, Julia was an educator. She was the art
teacher at Hazelwood Elementary School in Campbell and assistant-taught First Grade at
Katherine Delmar Burke School, her alma mater. She has served as a trustee at Burke’s, where
she chaired the 21st Century Skills Subcommittee and co-chaired Governance. She currently
serves as a trustee at Town School for Boys, where she co-chairs the Risk Management
Committee, sits on the Audit Committee, and served on the Covid-19 Task Force. Julia is married
to Roger Kuo, and they have two sons: RJ (UHS ‘26) and Hudson (Town ‘26).
Paul Wythes P ’23, ‘25
Paul Wythes began his career working for a series of technology companies in San Francisco and Seattle, including Andersen Consulting (Accenture) and Oracle. He has been investing in early-stage start-up companies creating innovative technical solutions to mitigate climate change for the past several years. Paul has served on several volunteer boards, most recently the Presidio / Pt. Bonita YMCA board, where he served as board chair. While on the Y board, he chaired the Pt. Bonita YMCA capital campaign. Before his time on the YMCA board, he served on the San Francisco Zoological Society board and the Bucknell University Alumni Association board. Paul received a B.A. from Bucknell and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He lives in San Francisco with his wife Mai Mai and their two children – daughter Alexandra and Thomas. Paul was born and raised on the peninsula and enjoys cooking, playing golf, and spending time in the Lake Tahoe area.
Courtney Young-Law
Courtney Young-Law, Ed.D., is a leadership coach and facilitator who transforms people into protagonists. Courtney most recently served as Chief Programs Officer at Coro Northern California, a leadership development nonprofit that trains leaders to foster a thriving democracy and tackle society’s biggest challenges together. At Coro, she created and facilitated programs for organizations such as the UC System, Water Solutions Network, and federal government . She has worked in a variety of roles in higher education as well.
Courtney cares deeply about building thriving and caring communities, and to that end she has served on the Glenridge Cooperative Nursery School Board, the PTA at CIS at DeAvila in SFUSD, and multiple committees at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of SF.
Courtney received her doctorate in Education from Mills College in Educational Leadership. She also has a Master's Degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Master's of Arts in Education from Mills College. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
A native Texan, she and her husband Chris have called San Francisco home for more than 20 years, where they are raising their two children, Calder (UHS ‘27) and Corina, an eighth grader at Roosevelt Middle School
Candace Yu ‘00
Candace Yu ('00) credits UHS for long-lasting friendships, fostering curiosity and lifelong learning, and nurturing strong student-teacher relationships that prepared her for college and beyond. As a Trustee, she is honored to contribute to UHS's strategic future and enthusiastic about increasing academic opportunities for generations of UHS students to come. Today, Candace leads social impact initiatives at Uber where she aims to increase marketplace access and equity to transportation and food. Immediately prior, Candace was a Principal with YouTube’s Social Impact team and advised content creators and advertisers on creating change through storytelling. Previously, Candace led Google finance integration projects related to mergers and acquisitions and product launches. She joined Google upon its acquisition of Impermium, a venture-backed cybersecurity start-up, where she applied her internet security expertise as a deputy to the Chief Operating Officer. Before moving to Silicon Valley, Candace developed international alliances promoting cyberspace stability for the United States Department of Defense. As the Special Assistant for Cyber Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, she led strategy and partnership development for international cybersecurity issues. She established key cross-sector partnerships with foreign defense and military organizations, the telecommunications industry, and regulatory agencies. Candace possesses insight into the nuances of U.S. federal policy-making, the legislative process, and the political landscape. Her leadership and contributions include: selecting political appointees at the White House, drafting landmark federal elections administration legislation at the U.S. Senate, and implementing paid media and polling strategies for the 2008 Obama for America presidential campaign. Candace earned her undergraduate degree from Barnard College, Columbia University and a graduate degree in public policy from Harvard University.
