The UHS Music Department is Proud to Present:
The Fall Music Projects Recitals!
WHO: The New Sounds Jazz Combo, The Cantabile String Quartet, Performers
from the Vocal Music Department, and a UHS String Trio
WHAT: The Fall Recitals!
WHEN: Monday-Tuesday, December 8-9, Lunch
WHERE: The UHS Jazz Room
WHY: Who doesn’t want to listen to the musical stylings of our illustrious UHS Music
Department? On Monday and Tuesday, December 8-9 at Lunch, The New Sounds
Jazz Combo (led by Terrence Brewer), The Cantabile String Quartet (led by Ernesto
Mazar Kindelan), Performers from the Vocal Music Department (led by Noah Bossert),
and a string trio (led by Serena Le), will take the to the floor of the new UHS Jazz
Room to show us what they’ve been working on this semester.
For the first Recital of the 2025-2026 school year, the New Sounds Jazz Combo will be
performing a variety of compositions by legendary Jazz masters on Monday,
December 8. First recorded on the album Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane, the NSJC
will be playing the bebop tune Lyresto; also, showcased will be the Antionio Carlos
Jobim classic, Wave, and the Great-American-Songbook composition Invitation,
written by Bronisław Kaper for the 1950 film A Life of Her Own.
Also, on Monday: The Cantabile String Quartet will be bringing live chamber music to
campus during lunch with the first movement of Alexander Borodin’s String Quartet
No. 2. This Romantic gem is full of warm harmonies and long, singing melodies that
really show off the expressive blend of the group. Take a break from your regular lunch
routine, grab your friends, and drop by to hear this beautiful music up close. In just one
lunchtime, you will get a taste of how a professional string quartet shapes sound,
shares musical ideas, and turns a school day into something a little more special.
On Tuesday, December 9, performers from the Vocal Music department will be
singing pieces from various works of musical theater as a short cabaret including:
• Paloma Siliezar, “Trina's Song” from Falsettos
• Konrad Phiasivongsa, “Grand Knowing You” from She Loves Me
• Rochanne Decalf, “Stars and the Moon” from Songs for a New World
Also on Tuesday, the string trio made-up of Flora Cofer (violin), Ava Behnia (violin),
and Ella Weiss (cello) will be performing Alexander Borodin's String Trio in G minor.
This increasingly intricate—and recurrently mysterious—set of riffs on an old Russian
folk song is one of Borodin's earlier works and a rare example of a string trio from the
19th-century. Composed in 1855, it was lost and forgotten in the archives until recently.
We can't wait to share it with you!
This event is open to friends and family and admission is FREE!
