Molding Change at UHS

Gracie Feinberg ‘19 was devastated when her favorite teacher, chemistry instructor Kelly Peach, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Wanting to better understand how the disease was affecting Kelly, Gracie participated in an existing independent study project on the biology of cancer and created her own to replicate an art installation that showed the beauty and vulnerability of women’s bodies as they experienced cancer.

Supporting Innovation with Summer Sandbox

Part of University’s strategic design is an ongoing commitment to supporting innovation in its curriculum. This past summer, UHS held the first session of “Summer at UHS: Connect.Invent.Design.” The most popular course was The Game of Life: Financial Literacy, with mathematics instructor Megan Storti. “In this gamified course, we held conversations that inspired kids to have fun while learning about money as a tool,” says Megan.

Join the Parents Association Lit Club

Do you know about the Parents Association Literacy Club? It’s a casual, fun, and highly evolved book club for UHS parents. Last year, they read Melting the Bluesby UHS alumni Tracy Chiles McGhee ‘88 and Pigskin Nation: How the National Football League Reshaped American Politicsby Jesse Berrett, UHS history instructor since 1996 - to name a couple.

Another Successful Showcase

Situated on picturesque Marina Boulevard, with a breathtaking view of the bay, this year’s Showcase house introduced new audiences to this 41-year-old signature event. Decorator Showcase is the primary fundraising vehicle for financial aid at University, and this year netted $500,000 for financial aid.
