2020 Spring Arts Festival

When S-I-P began in March, all in-person arts events at UHS were canceled for the rest of the year. This meant no Spring Concert, no AP Studio Arts Show, no live Spring Musical performance and no Spring Arts Festival. This was deeply disappointing, of course. And especially heartbreaking for our seniors, where the end-of-year rituals and performances put a cap on their high school artistic careers.

But, despite these disappointments, the Arts Department prevailed! And the Arts students and teachers – like everyone at UHS in these extraordinary times – have shown great resilience, creativity and ingenuity. All arts classes continued remotely, and each discipline kept making work, with students learning and playing music and songs; drawing and painting and photographing and making pottery projects in their kitchens(!); rehearsing and recording a musical on Zoom; learning scenes and monologues and making spoken word pieces in Acting II; teaching each other about theatrical design in Technical Theatre; and making short performance pieces in their backyards for Advanced Projects in Theatre. And while we can’t have our usual end-of-year festival, we can still share and celebrate the work of all students of the arts over these next three days…and there is a LOT of really exciting content to share!

So, enjoy these pages where you can look at slide shows, listen to podcasts and concerts, and watch micro and macro theatrical performances – all made by UHS students.

From all of us in the Arts Department: stay safe, healthy and inspired.

The Arts Department would like to extend a warm THANK YOU to the Arts Auxiliary – in particular, to our class of ‘20 parents, who will be “graduating” with their senior student. This fabulous team of parents has been working behind the scenes to support all of our arts events this year. Thank you for all of your hard work and endless commitment to the Arts at UHS!
