Fall Concert 2021
San Francisco University High School Is Proud to Present:
The Fall Concert LIVE & IN-PERSON!*
Come celebrate the UHS Music Program and its many musicians at our annual Fall Concert on Friday, November 12, at 7 PM in the UHS theater. The Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Advanced Choir, Orchestra, the Satonics, The Perry Brothers Jazz Duo, and our new instrumentalists will be sharing their work at this special event.
In our first concert back on campus since December of 2019, the UHS Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble will be playing a collection of classic Jazz compositions by some of the greatest masters of the music; compositions by saxophone giant John Coltrane, the iconic pianist Horace Silver as well as envelope-pushing compositional trendsetters like pianist Cedar Walton and Mark Levine. The Satonics, UHS’ very own a cappella group, will present work by Hozier and Britney Spears. The Advanced Choir will perform music from Estonia — a set of four lullabies from composer Veljo Tormis — and the United States — two pieces from Indian-American composer Reena Esmail, who combines music from Indian and Western traditions to create a rich choral tapestry. One of her pieces was originally written to be sung virtually during the pandemic, and now that we’re together at last, the choir will be able to sing it live. The other piece uses rhythmic solfege syllables, often found in both Hindustani and Carnatic music from India, to propel an exciting, syllabic motor.
