Carin Marrs has been the head cross country and track & field coach at San Francisco University High School since 2013, during which time her girls cross country team has finished on the podium at the California State Cross Country meet three times, including a state title in 2021. She coached the boys team to a state title in 2017. Carin's cross country and track and field teams have won a total of 20 section and conference titles in her tenure at University high school. In 2016, Carin won the Jim Tracy Coach of the Year Award from University High School, and was selected as San Francisco Coach of the year for all San Francisco Schools, all sports in 2018. In 2022, Carin was awarded the California Coaches Association State Coach of the Year for all divisions in Girls Cross Country.
Prior to University High School, Carin coached at her alma mater, Western Albemarle High School in central Virginia, where she led her cross country team to three state titles and her track and field team to one.
Carin was a member of a nationally ranked high school program at Western Albemarle, and was a six-time individual state champion. Carin captained her collegiate cross country team at Division 1 James Madison University, competing in cross country, indoor and outdoor track at JMU.
Carin's focus in coaching is to help her athletes learn how to become fierce competitors while building confidence in their bodies and intuition, as well as avoiding the comparison trap that permeates society and sport.
Carin lives in San Francisco and has two sons, Julian and Louie.
