The Lamott Endowment for Interdisciplinary Teaching and Curricular Innovation

Your gift will enable our school to establish an initial $600,000 endowment in honor of Bruce "Doc" Lamott’s remarkable contributions to our teaching and learning community at UHS over the last 36 years. An award, aptly titled the Lamott Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Teaching and Curricular Innovation, will be given annually to faculty members who demonstrate interest in creating or reinventing current curriculum to encourage team teaching and interdisciplinary work. Making the time and space to develop this opportunity has been a long-standing aspiration of the UHS faculty, and now our teachers will have the resources to reach new levels of innovation through the development of interdisciplinary content and courses. Your gift is both a contribution to the future of UHS and a way to recognize and honor all that Doc has meant to our school and students. On a broader level, your support will allow us to experiment with programs and foster the continuous improvement necessary to provide the best education in an ever-evolving world.

For the 2017–18 school year, we awarded our inaugural Lamott Fellowship to two teaching teams, who developed two fascinating interdisciplinary courses. The Art of the Book is a teaching-learning project, an example of a “sandbox” program that is highly experimental and responsive to student and teacher interest. The History of Whiteness breaks new ground by being the first course at UHS to earn credit in two departments, History and Human Development.
