Nasif Iskander Honorary Fund
Over the past 32 years, Nasif Iskander has transformed the trajectory and made an indelible mark on the future of San Francisco University High School.
Since his serendipitous start in 1993 as a substitute physics teacher, he has touched the lives of thousands of students—encouraging and inspiring the same love of learning and analytical curiosity that is a hallmark of his career. The legacy he leaves behind is an extension of his extraordinary accomplishments throughout his three-decade commitment to educational excellence and student development.
Nasif is well known for his warm and engaging personal style and an "uncanny ability to read people". He has worn many hats—teacher, mentor, Dean, and Head of School—bringing the entirety of his "big-picture" thinking and practical problem-solving to every role. Our students have all felt and benefited from his absolute confidence in their ability to succeed, and so has our entire community.
As he prepares for retirement, we are inspired to commemorate his service and legacy by launching the Nasif Iskander Honorary Fund. The Fund will support faculty development, reflecting Nasif’s career-long commitment to professional growth and his belief that a school is itself a learner, constantly striving to improve. To physically honor his impact, the school will name the Nasif Iskander Physics Classroom at our recently opened California Street Campus—a space that returns to the discipline where his journey first began.
Mentorship, professional growth, and innovation are key pillars of Nasif’s leadership. The Nasif Iskander Honorary Fund will epitomize this commitment, ensuring that our teachers have the resources to remain passionate educators and leaders of remarkable skill. Gifts to this fund will support the critical thinking and empathy necessary to guide the next generation of independent thinkers.
