The Julia Russell Eells Honorary Fund
Over the past nine years, Julia Russell Eells has transformed the trajectory and made an indelible mark on the future of University High School. She has touched the lives of thousands of students during her time at UHS - encouraging and inspiring the same love of learning and openness to new ideas that is a hallmark of her career and personal pursuits. The legacy she will leave behind is an extension of her extraordinary accomplishments throughout her over 40-year commitment to educational excellence and student development.
Julia is well known for her warm and engaging personal style and exemplifies the criteria put forth by the UHS community at large. She has worn many hats over the span of her career and brought the entirety of her culminated life experience to her role as Head of School at UHS. Her sincere commitment to guiding young people has been reflected through activities such as her Friday Current Events Group as well as her mentorship of fourteen seniors in the Class of 2021. All of our students have felt and benefited from her attention and care, and so has our entire community.
As she embarks on her next journey, we at UHS are inspired to commemorate her service and legacy by launching the Julia Russell Eells Honorary Fund. The Fund will establish the Julia Russell Eells Welcome Center at our new California Street Campus, which will symbolically and physically change the face of University High School.
The Welcome Center will be the first space our students and visitors encounter on our new campus, which will be constructed with openness, light, and vitality in mind. We envision this space as a reflection of Julia’s spirit and commitment to centering students’ needs and voices in her work and advocacy, which has already moved UHS into the future. Accessibility, equity, and inclusion are key pillars of our value system at UHS - the Welcome Center will epitomize our steadfast commitment to reaching a broader array of students while encouraging lifelong learning through personal and professional growth.
As a state-of-the-art science and community space, the construction of the new California Street Campus is set to begin in 2023, opening in 2025. Fundraising for the new building is well underway to establish the Julia Russell Eells Welcome Center. Individuals who wish to honor Julia with a gift will be recognized on a commemorative plaque which will be displayed in the Center in perpetuity.
We hope you will consider joining us in honoring Julia. For more information or to set up a meeting to discuss this legacy project in more detail, please contact Shaundra Bason, UHS Director of Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
