With the support of our school administration, the Riot Club will be hosting the third annual conference for high school women of color in the Bay Area. The Riot Club inspires young women of color to focus on the intersections of race and feminism. We created the Riot Conference hoping to bridge the disconnect of women of color at private independent schools in the Bay Area through a day of embrace and encouragement. Our theme for this year’s conference is “Tender Love and Care.” Through this theme, we want to explore self-love, self-care, and the de-stigmatization of mental health. We want to provide a space for young women of color to find their power and reclaim their time by reflecting on the care they take for themselves. Our more immediate goal is to help break down barriers for female students of color that inhibit them from reaching their full potential. With the 2016 elections behind us, we recognize that there are extremely few women of color in leadership positions who can allow our voices to be heard. We're hoping that this conference will cultivate more women leaders of color, especially in high powered positions like President of the United States.
